Whether you have been living in an apartment for many years, or it’s your first time to embark on this new journey, the time will come that you will want to decorate your kitchen.

While some homeowners think of investing in designer kitchens, it’s just not necessary to replace your appliances or install granite countertops to update your kitchen. With this in mind, you may find it valuable to learn some unique temporary decorating ideas for your kitchen that will inspire you in customizing your home to make it feel more relaxing and comfortable.

Focus on the floor

If you want to make your rental kitchen look cozier, place a cute cushioned mat on the floor. You can put this in front of your sink (especially if you spend a lot of time cleaning dishes and other kitchen chores) and in another one in front of your stove.

If your sink and stove are near each other, place a larger mat to cover the whole area. You can find mats in larger sizes about four feet long on Amazon. You can also choose anti-fatigue mats that will feel amazingly good under tired feet.

Improve the lights in your kitchen

In most apartments, especially studio type or medium-sized, the kitchen doesn’t face outdoors and it’s typically located on an interior wall where there’s not much light. If your kitchen doesn’t have a window to let in more light, there’s another option for you. Look for a windowpane mirror. Put a metal handle at the bottom of the mirror to look even more like an old-fashioned window.

You can easily create your own mirrored window by adding narrow strips of wood to the top of an existing mirror to mimic the gridlines of the pane. After you have made the Window Pane Mirror, attach it to the wall using the recommended strength Command Picture Hanging Strips or small nails.

To make the most of your window, add some small café curtains on the mirror sides. When you add only curtains without a Window Pane Mirror, it may also give the impression of a window. Try to put a broad picture of an outdoor scene on the wall, and frame it with curtains.

Add style to your stove

Do you know that it’s a good idea to decorate your kitchen stove by covering the burners? This is another unique and temporary decoration idea for your kitchen. The burners can keep extra crumbs out of the heating elements. You can place a wooden burner cover that can serve a double purpose as a cutting board. Get some DIY ideas and instructions on how to make your own.

You can also buy metal burner covers in a wide variety of sizes and styles. You can find simple round ones that work well for electric or induction stoves. Long covers would function well for a stove with gas burners. Rectangle covers are good for a stove with round or square burners.

Dress up the dishwasher

If the apartment that you have rented came with an ugly or old dishwasher, there are a few options that you can do to make it look good. If the dishwasher is metal, you can make use of a large magnet to cover up a lot of the imperfections.

But if it’s stainless steel, it won’t hold a magnet, and you will have to resort to some other options. You can purchase some removable contact paper, in a color and pattern that you like. Then cut it to size and stick it on to the front of the dishwasher.

If you decorate with the seasons, use masking tape (which is easy to remove) to attach a greeting card or a placemat to the front of the dishwasher. Roll the masking tape in a loop, attach it to the back of the card or a mat and stick it on the dishwasher.

Trim the walls

As a tenant, you cannot put any large holes in the walls. But if you want to put some decorations on the wall without damaging it, try this idea. Place two removable command hooks on the wall with your desired distance apart. Make a loop on each end of a piece of string or wire. You can use the wire to hang placemats, pictures, or posters.

Rock the refrigerator

If you want to customize your decade-old refrigerator to help make your kitchen feel more inviting, use similar ways that you would decorate a dishwasher. The same idea as was mentioned for the dishwasher, you can use a large magnet, placemat, removable sticker, or large card. Another easy way to make your refrigerator look nicer is to invest in cloth covers.

One of the easiest temporary decoration ideas that you can do to upgrade your kitchen using these unique temporary decoration ideas for your kitchen. You can find the supplies to complete these ideas at home improvement stores or craft stores which will have a lot of choices to select from.
