Most people have experienced opening the fridge and discovering a bad odor that will make them scratch their heads. The bad smell can appear quickly, catch you off guard and linger sometimes for days, or even weeks.

It might be a big challenge for you to organize your fridge. However, you must jump right in and do it. By doing so, you'll discover that your fridge is emitting a rotten smell. However, it can be tricky to locate the source of this bad smell, and getting rid of that foul odor might not be so easy. Here are some simple tips on getting rid of that bad odor from your fridge

Clean bin trays, shelves, and interior surfaces

That bad smell might have come from rotten food or spills, so when you clean your fridge, you need to pull out your bin trays and scrub inside and underneath them. You also have to regularly wipe down all inside your fridge's surfaces with a damp cloth to eliminate the bad smell. Then, wipe dry the surfaces of your fridge with a soft cloth. Clean the outside with a diluted cleaning solution and wipe any metal parts, especially the handle, with a damp cloth.

Use natural cleaning solutions

When you clean your fridge and get rid of any odors, it's a good idea to use natural cleaning solutions so you can avoid contaminating your food with strong chemicals. The good news is that you can find many natural cleaning solutions made with common ingredients that you might already have in your Branson apartment.

One easy solution to clean your fridge the natural way is to use half a cup of baking soda with a mixture of a few teaspoons of warm water, in order to make a cleaning paste. A combination of equal parts of white vinegar and water is also an effective way to get your fridge sparkling clean.

Check under your refrigerator

After you clean your refrigerator, you may notice that it still emits a bad smell. Perhaps that bad odor is coming from underneath it, as some food may have rolled under your fridge and have rotted. If you can move your fridge, check underneath and thoroughly clean the floor.

The smell might not be from food

When you smell chemicals from your fridge and not a cleaning solution, you may ask for help from a professional. You need to contact the manufacturer of your fridge. If the bad odor is caused due to a product defect, the company may offer you a free repair or a replacement.

When you want to investigate any fridge issues, you can probably do it by yourself. For example, if your fridge features a drip pan, you may find it dirty or moldy. When you check your drip pan, you need to unplug your fridge before you do it. Then clean the drip pan with warm water and dish soap and reinstall it.

If you smell the stench of sulfur from your fridge and have a water dispenser, you might need to clean the water filter. The coils in a fridge can also cause a bad smell, but coils need to be cleaned carefully with your fridge unplugged. However, if you want to clean the coils, it may be best to consult the help of a professional. It's best to be cautious, before diving into a job that may cause more damage.

Use lemons to keep a fresh and clean fridge

As lemon is commonly found in most Branson apartments and homes, you can use this fruit to keep your fridge clean and it’s also a great way of freshening up the interior of your fridge. You can use the lemon by just soaking a few cotton balls in lemon juice and using it to wipe down the interior of your fridge. The lemon juice will create a pleasant smell. You need to regularly place a few slices of lemon on a plate and leave them to sit inside your fridge. They will absorb unpleasant scents and keep your fridge smelling fragrant.

Deodorize your fridge

Once your fridge is clean, you can be sure that it will stay fresh when you deodorize it. Try to leave an open container of baking soda in the fridge for 24 hours to absorb bad smells. Then, throw away the baking soda after the required period. You can deodorize your fridge regularly by placing a plate of ground coffee in your fridge for 24 hours. After you're done with the ground coffee, you can mix it into your house plants' soil or compost bin.
